UI VC Aspirant: Prof. Hakeem FAWEHINMI

PROFESSOR HAKEEM FAWEHINMI’S CITATION:

Hakeem Fawehinmi, a Professor of Clinical Anatomy and Biomedical Anthropology hails from Ondo town and was born on the 29th of September 1969 at Ibadan, Nigeria. He graduated with a B. Med. Sc (Anatomy) in 1989 and an M.B;B.S in 1992 from the University of Port Harcourt. He bagged an M. Sc degree in Medical Anthropology from the University of London in 2003 and an M.D (Doctor of Medicine) in 2008 from UniPort.

Prof. Fawehinmi has had a rewarding public service and academic career with a wealth of experience in institutional administration. He undertook his pre-registration internship training as a House Officer with the UniPort Teaching Hospital between 1993 and 1994 before proceeding for his one year obligatory National Youth Service Corps as a Medical Officer In-Charge of the Nigerian Air Force Clinic, Ilorin in 1995. He gained employment into UniPort on the 1st of June 1995 as a Lecturer II with the Department of Anatomy and rose through the ranks to become Professor in May 2010. He was Head of Department of Anatomy, UniPort (2005-2007), Head of Department of Anatomy Niger Delta University (2007-2009), Associate Dean (2010 – 2012) and Dean Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, College of Health Sciences UniPort (2012 – 2014). He was Visiting Researcher to the Department of Anatomy and Developmental Biology, University College London in 2006 under the McArthur Foundation Teachers Upgrade Programme. Prof. Fawehinmi has served in many Academic and Administrative Statutory and Ad Hoc Committees and Boards of the University. He is the current Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) of the University of Port Harcourt.
